About
Based in Wagga Wagga NSW, Independent Directions was created to bridge the gap between available support and the veterans and first responders who need it. While there are many organisations, programs and services ready to help veterans and first responders, many individuals simply don't know they exist or how to access them. Independent Directions helps connect people with the right support at the right time, making complex systems easier to navigate and ensuring no one misses out on assistance because they didn't know where to turn.
Nicole Turner
Founder and Clinical Services Coordinator
Nicole has more than 25 years of nursing experience across both the public and private healthcare sectors.
Her career has included working in major metropolitan trauma and emergency departments, as well as rural and remote communities throughout Australia. During this time, she gained experience across trauma and emergency care, mental health, alcohol and other drugs, high dependency and intensive care, aeromedical retrieval, diabetes management, wound care, continence management and case management.
In recent years, Nicole has focused on supporting veterans, service personnel and first responders, with a particular interest in mental health and wellbeing. She has also worked within the private sector supporting individuals with complex needs and challenging behaviours.
Nicole founded Independent Directions after seeing how difficult it can be for people to navigate the many services and supports available to them. Her goal is simple: to help veterans, first responders and their families find the right support, at the right time, without having to navigate complex systems alone.
